Tantric Dance Meditation By Dhara Lemos

Tantric Dance Meditation

By Dhara Lemos

Q: What is tantric dance meditation?
A: It is a free form of dance that follows the way of tantric meditation—with awareness.

Q: What is the tantric way?
A: The tantra says: Accept yourself as you are. It is a deep acceptance. Welcome the basic energy you are born with, and through it, sexual energy. The basic cells of our bodies are sexual—your mother’s cell plus your father’s cell = you. So tantric alchemy says: Do not fight, but befriend all the energies that are given to you. Welcome and feel grateful that you are alive and have all forms of energy, even anger, greed, envy, sex, because these are hidden sources of power and can be transformed; they can be opened.
When sex is transformed it becomes love. When anger is transformed it becomes compassion. Any poison and ugliness are gone. As the saying goes, “Be careful not to throw the baby out with the bath water.”

Q: How do you perform the dance?
A: In a tantric dance meditation, you let the dance flow in its own way; you don’t force it. In other words, you follow it. You are not doing it, but it is happening to you. In this technique of dance, you allow every repressed feeling and emotion to come out. You just dance it out, and by this very act, transformation will happen.
So you feel free, and you can invite the celebratory mood to take you over. It is playful and joyful. You are playing with your life energy and bioenergy, allowing it to move in its own way, just like the wind blows and the river flows. You are filling up with your life force.
In this moment, all your problems are forgotten and you feel refreshed and rejuvenated. In a very playful way, you can liberate yourself from old fears and beliefs (the ones that no longer serve you) that make you so serious and ill and dull.
It is time to celebrate yourself!

Women have a natural wisdom and compassion that is often distorted in an effort to follow or imitate masculine forms of spirituality and leadership. Women are formed with delicate yet powerful round edges. Our soft curved edges tell us that we are not linear by design – our power is in our roundedness. Rather than targeting our attention from point A to point B to accomplish point C, we gather information in concentric rings from many different sources at one time. Our feminine nature is receptive to sensation, feeling, intuition and thought from both our inner and outer environments. Our round form
